Meta-owned app WhatsApp is finally getting a new feature: usernames. Users will be able to create unique usernames consisting of letters and numbers with special characters (besides periods and underscores). This would ensure security by preventing people from pretending they represent a website and by not allowing usernames starting or ending with “www.” or domain names such as “.com”. When someone updates their username, you’ll see a system message notifying you of the change. Users can choose to display their phone number instead.
